Modern Warfare 4 Beta Update: Footstep Audio Tweaks and New Content

The first Modern Warfare 4 beta patch deploys Saturday, August 22 at 10am PT. Infinity Ward reduced footstep audio range, dialed back two specific weapons, and folded in a fourth 6v6 map alongside a cash-extraction mode.

Modern Warfare 4 Beta Update: Footstep Audio Tweaks and New Content

The studio framed its own TTK curve as "not quite right yet" — and shipped numerical adjustments to match.

Audio: range and volume pulled down

Enemy footsteps and gear sounds now register at a reduced distance, with overall volume lowered across the board. The stated objective: signal approaching players without broadcasting exact positions at range. Translation for play — aggressive flanks lose information, but holding power positions remains viable. A separate fix corrects incorrect wet-surface footstep audio, restoring baseline cues on those tiles.

Weapon math, before and after

The patch targets three specific outliers.

ISO Nightshade (SMG): damage falloff now steeper at extended ranges. Headshot multiplier reduced. Net effect — close-quarters TTK unchanged, mid-range duels push an extra bullet or two.

Oris 8.6 (marksman rifle): initial damage range shortened before falloff begins. Headshot multiplier lowered. Razor attachment cooldown increased. Result — one-shot potential at the edge of its comfort zone is gone; two-tap thresholds extend further out.

Frangible Rounds (attachment): slow duration cut by 26.8%. Slow magnitude cut by 21.4%. The perk's crowd-control value drops below the viability threshold for stacking builds.

Infinity Ward also raised minimum TTK across several additional weapons without itemizing each one in the early notes.

Map pool and mode injection

Cachette enters as the fourth 6v6 map: an abandoned wine warehouse and mechanic's garage on the outskirts of a French rail terminal. The footprint reads small — three-lane rotation, tight interiors. With four maps now live, map voting activates for the first time in the beta.

Transit 213 receives a visibility pass: darker shadowed areas brightened, color balance adjusted. The contrast floor rises for player models crossing dim corridors.

Inflation mode: eliminate enemies to accumulate cash, take down HVT Operators to inherit their funds. The richest players on the scoreboard get marked as HVTs for the lobby. Survival through that window stacks increased cash multipliers. Pure snowball economy — high-reward for high-skill survival.

What to track through Open Beta

The Early Access window closes Tuesday. Open Beta runs Friday, August 28 through Tuesday, September 1. Level cap rises to 30. The first Warzone Resurgence map — Zodiac — enters the rotation. Infinity Ward has flagged a detailed update on spawns, TTK, and movement ahead of Weekend Two.

Two outstanding issues remain under investigation: join-in-progress failures on Kill Block, and framerate drops when cooking lethal equipment.
